Pat Vaccaro founded the New Rochelle Basketball Association (NRBA) about five years ago. This year, he’s hosting the group’s second golf outing to raise funds to enable the association to live up to its motto, “Helping Kids Succeed.”
The NRBA helps kids move timely and successfully through their grades and go on to college and/or a career. Vaccaro, a retired attorney, says, “Our focus is on responsibility and accountability. If you don’t strive for success in the classroom, if you cause problems at home or in the community, if you don’t understand the necessity of being a good person and citizen, you will not play for an NRBA team and you will not receive support off the court. But if you strive for success in the classroom, in the community, and on the court, assistance from the NRBA could be life changing.”
The NRBA monitors school progress and provides assistance in the form of tutoring and guidance counseling. The organization currently employs ten tutors. It also helps with college prep including ACT/SAT prep, assistance securing college admission and need-based financial aid and/or athletic scholarships, and post-secondary school job placement.
Now that Vaccaro has retired from passion #2, The Jackson Lewis Law Firm, he and his small committee including co-founder and partner Andy Peterson, are dedicated to funding the nonprofit 501(c)3 and helping kids in need through organized basketball. The NRBA currently supports 10 boys and girls programs in 4th through 8th grades. It also provides assistance to boys and girls New Rochelle High School basketball programs, from freshman to varsity.
Helping to fund this ambitious program is NRBA’s Second Annual Golf Outing July 31st at Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle. Single golfers can play for $350, foursomes $1,200. “Virtually every dollar raised goes to the kids,” according to Vararro. “No contribution is too small and all contributions are tax deductible.” For information and details for participating in the Second Annual NRBA Golf Outing, contact Pat Vaccaro at pvaccaro261@gmail.com.
