A 13-year-old New Rochelle student is accused of stabbing a 14-year-old classmate in the chest Wednesday morning, according to police. The incident occurred near Isaac Young Middle School, on Centre Avenue, and was reported by a crossing guard at 8:30 am. The alleged assailant was taken into custody by New Rochelle Youth Officers, but a weapon has not been recovered.
The victim was brought to the Bronx’s Jacobi Medical Center by ambulance, and his injuries do not appear to be life threatening, according to police. After the attack, the school was placed on lockdown and students were asked to stay inside of their classrooms.
“Anything of this magnitude where somebody is injured on the outside we take all precautions,” Principal Anthony Bongo told CBS New York. “Everything was under control the entire time.”
The investigation is ongoing.
