Update (5/3/17): Stivenson Desir, of New Rochelle, was sentenced by Judge Barry Warhit for shooting 18-year-old Iona College student Brandon Lawrence. Desir was sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison for one count of murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon.
Update (2/15/17): Stivenson Desir, a New Rochelle teenager, was found guilty on Tuesday of murdering an Iona College student last year.
He is facing 25 years to life in state prison for one count of murder and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon. Desir’s sentencing will be on Wednesday, May 3.
Update (4/26/16): Stivenson Desir, of New Rochelle, was arraigned today on an indictment charging him with:
• one count of Murder in the Second Degree, a class “A” Felony,
• two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Second Degree, class “C” Felonies,
in the death of Brandon Lawrence.
A New Rochelle man has been charged with murder in the fatal shooting of Brandon Lawrence, an 18-year-old Iona College student and Yonkers resident, in a city park on Sunday, according to police.
Stivenson Desir, 19, was arrested and charged with the second-degree murder of Lawrence in New Rochelle’s Lincoln Park on Sunday morning. Desir was arraigned in city court today, but the outcome is not known to New Rochelle Police at this time.
“The Iona community is deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of an Iona student resulting from a shooting early Sunday morning at a New Rochelle city park,” read a statement released by the college on Monday. “The College is coordinating support services directly with students, faculty and staff and has been advised there is no related danger to the campus community.”

Police received calls reporting multiple gunshots heard in the park at 3:24 am on Sunday morning. Upon arrival, officers found Lawrence bleeding on the ground, lying in the centerfield area of the park’s baseball field. The officers tried to save his life, but Lawrence was declared dead when ambulance personnel arrived on the scene.
