The US Department of Labor announced today that seasonally adjusted nonfarm payrolls rose 321,000 in November, and that the October jobless rate was 5.8 percent. At that pace, the US is on track to bill the strongest year of job creation since 1999.
The good news extends to Westchester. The county’s jobless rate in October (and September, too) was just 5.0 percent, well below the national average and considerably less than October 2013’s 5.9 percent reading.
New York State’s unemployment rate dropped to 6.0 percent in October, down from 6.2 percent in September and the lowest level in six years.
The picture is even rosier when you compare Westchester with other counties in New York. Westchester’s October unemployment rate ties with Dutchess, Genesee, Rensselaer, and Washington counties for 11th-lowest out of the state’s 62 counties (although the county slipped from 10th a year earlier).
