Like generations that preceded them, many of today’s County residents were not born and raised in the United States. Many immigrated to Westchester, or to various places in the US en route to Westchester, from other countries in search of a better life—more freedom, more opportunities, less persecution
and oppression.
We wanted to hear—and share—the stories of some of these residents. Though their stories are each very different, they all have one thing in common: perseverance. Many of these people faced daunting challenges, and none of them stopped pursuing their dreams. As our representative from Albania so eloquently put it, “While American-born professionals can simply walk to their destination, we have to run in order to hopefully get there at the same time. But once you start running, there is no stopping.”
