Myrtle Beach has always been about value golf, but the low price has sometimes meant a low quality experience. Mystical Golf shatters that myth with its trio of excellent courses and some amenity-laden packages. With direct flights from LGA, it’s an easy trip for Westchester golfers, too.
“Simply put, we offer the best stay-and-play packages in the U.S.,” says Claude Pardue, Mystical Golf CEO. “Our three courses continue to draw nothing but raves from our first-time guests, loyal repeat customers returning year after year and the major golf media.”
Architect Dan Maples designed the three Mystical Golf courses, The Wizard, The Witch, and Man-O-War. Each one offers a different and challenging style of layout. The Witch was awarded 4 ½ stars by Golf Digest while Man-O-War and The Wizard each earned four. The trio is consistently recognized by Golf Channel as among Myrtle Beach’s “five best courses.”
Man-O-War has water on every hole and well-contoured bent-grass greens that are a real pleasure to putt. At nearly 7,000 yards, the course demands a strong game tee-to-green. Half of the par fours are over 400 yards long, the shortest par three is 173 yards, and two of the par fives stretch awfully close to 600 yards. And then, just to notch up the challenge a bit, there are the back-to-back island greens at the 14th and 15th holes. You’ll be coming back for more, though, after you birdie the 494-yard par-five 18th.

Fans of links golf will be right at home on The Wizard, where hard-and-fast turf, wide and rumpled fairways, and sod-faced bunkers are reminiscent of the game’s origins in Scotland. Moguls line the fairways, deep bunkers abound, and a bump-and-run shot is your best friend. The course ends with two exciting water-bound holes. The 17th is a 180-yard classic one-shotter to a green with water on three sides. The 18th takes it a step further with an island tee, an island fairway, and a peninsula green. You’ll have your heart in your throat for the full 421 yards.
The Witch plays through picturesque swampy wetlands and cypress forest on 500 acres teeming with wildlife. Some 4,000 feet of bridges wind between holes where you’re liable to see cranes, alligators, bald eagles, and even black bears. The 6,796-yard course is pretty wild, too. From the brutal 425-yard opener to the elevation-enhanced closing four holes, you’ll need a steady driver and sharp irons to keep your score in the neighborhood of par.
Late spring and summer is a great time to visit. Mystical Golf offers a three-day package as low as $99 per person per day (taxes included) that gives you four rounds of golf, three nights’ lodging in a well-appointed three-bedroom villa, free breakfast daily, and a gratis steak dinner at nearby Logan’s Roadhouse. Buddy trip anyone?
