Get ready to kick back behind the big screen with some buttery popcorn and an oversized soda at these Westchester movie theaters.

Over the last year, movie theaters have remained closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. As the number of Americans getting vaccinated is on the rise and various COVID-19 restrictions are being lifted, many of our favorite movie theaters in Westchester are reopening and getting back into business.

The Jacob Burns Film Center

The Jacob Burns Film Center in Pleasantville plans to reopen on May 12. In light of its reopening, the theater has made various improvements to its facilities, including the installation of Bi-Polar Ionization air purification units throughout the center to optimize the safety and comfort of customers.

“We are thrilled to open the theater doors on Wednesday, May 12, and welcome our community back to the Jacob Burns Film Center,” Director of Marketing and Communications at the Jacob Burns Film Center Denise Treco says. “It has been a long and difficult year, but thanks to the strength and support of the Jacob Burns Film Center community, we are ready and prepared to embrace this exciting moment.”

The Bedford Playhouse

The Bedford Playhouse in Bedford plans to reopen on May 28, but the Playhouse Café and Bambi’s Bar reopens on April 2 for indoor and outdoor dining on Fridays and Saturdays.

“We are incredibly grateful for the support our community has shown over the last very difficult year and we are looking forward to welcoming guests back home to the Playhouse,” Executive Director of Bedford Playhouse Michael Hoagland says.

“The Playhouse will continue to follow the recommendations and guidelines of health experts,” he adds. “With these strict measures in place, we are confident the Playhouse will be a safe and enjoyable movie-going experience for everyone.”

The Picture House Regional Film Center

The Picture House Regional Film Center in Pelham reopened on March 5. The theater is operating at limited capacity and strictly adhering to all COVID-19 safety measures as it welcomes customers back to the iconic 1921 theater.

“This year marks The Picture House’s centennial,” Executive Director and President of The Picture House Regional Film Center Laura deBuys says. “And after such a prolonged closing, we are thrilled to once again be showing films and welcoming moviegoers from throughout the County to our theater as we’ve done for a century.”

“As we begin to gather again and delight in the magic of the movies together, our patrons’ health, safety, and comfort is paramount to our operations,” she adds.
