Launching from her lifelong passion for aviation, Millie Hernandez-Becker is flying higher than ever in her third decade working in the industry. Since 2004, she’s been the sole-employee CEO of Skyqueen Enterprises, a private aviation consulting company which offers services including aircraft acquisition, private jet charter/management, and airport real estate development. Skyqueen, which is based at Westchester County Airport, works globally and domestically to provide clients with private-jet travel solutions.
Drawing on her experience owning and running a regional charter company until 2003, Hernandez-Becker maintained her network of industry connections to lay the groundwork for Skyqueen. She says her reputation made her a sought-after expert for clients. Her strategy for flying solo in her field is to surround herself with professionals she trusts, connecting with other solo entrepreneurs to augment her own area of expertise, along with theirs.
“Most consultants identify the problem. I identify the solution.”
Hernandez-Becker credits recent tax cuts for jet owners with greatly spurring the demand for her services. She’s on track to double her business by the end of this year. The Westchester area is an attractive destination for business travelers, she says, and Hernandez-Becker prides herself on being able to deliver what clients ask for.
“Most consultants identify the problem. I identify the solution,” Hernandez-Becker says. “The satisfying part is doing a good job for your client and making sure they are 100 percent happy.”
