MGA Golf Leagues Add Another Reason to Play

New schedule of 9-hole league play debuts as MGA works to grow the game

The Metropolitan Golf Association (MGA) gave golf leagues a shot in the arm this year by debuting league play at two area courses. The format introduces a bit of competition and a team structure for those golfers who are looking for a little variety in their schedule and some fun in their lives.

“To enlarge our audience, we’re going to roll out some public golf leagues this year,” says MGA Executive Director Brian Mahoney. “There is such an insatiable appetite for competition here, we can facilitate that at all levels. Many of them will be tested as nine-hole leagues that will capture more people.”

The MGA Golf Leagues consist of four teams made up of eight to twelve players and are open to men, women, and juniors of all skill levels. You can sign up with your regular foursome or register as a single to meet some new friends.

Each week, you’ll play nine holes from a shotgun start in the early evening, giving you plenty of time to complete the round before dark and visit the 19th hole for a recap (or nightcap) with your teammates and fellow competitors.

In Westchester, league play will be at Hudson Hills Golf Club in Ossining on Thursday evenings at 6 pm. The league will meet for eight weeks July 13 through August 31. The $35 weekly fee includes golf, cart, and a $10 voucher for food and drink. Another MGA league will play at SkyView Golf Club in Sparta, NJ, on Monday evenings.
