Nathan Han, 14, of Somers and Rina Jung, 16, of Briarcliff Manor won the 2015 Metropolitan Junior PGA Championship presented by Under Armour and Genesis Networks this week at Metropolis Country Club in White Plains.
Han posted a final-round 73 for a two-day total of even par 142, giving him a seven-stroke victory over defending champion Brent Ito of Ardsley, Aidan McDermott of Pleasantville, and Cole Vissicchio of Port Washington, New York.
Jung finished one-under in her second round for a two-day total of 147 and a six-stroke win over defending champion Elizabeth Choi, Syosset, past champion Rachel Corry of Ridgefield, Connecticut, and Lauren Peter of Carmel, New York.
The wins qualified Han and Jung for the 40th Junior PGA Championship to be played August 3-6 at Miramont Country Club in Bryan, Texas.
WGA Westchester Open
Danny Balin mounted a stellar nine-under par 63 in the first round and rode it the rest of the way to win the Westchester Golf Association Open Championship this week at Brae Burn Country Club in Purchase. Balin, an assistant pro at Greenwich country club Burning Tree and winner on the PGA Latin American Tour this year, held steady in the final two rounds to finish three strokes ahead of Chris Scialo of Paramount Country Club.

Paramount head pro Steve Scott (third) and Ike winner Cameron Young (the low amateur) both charged to 66 in the third round but were too late to catch Balin. Chris Toulson, head pro at Sunningdale Country Club, was fourth, and Quaker Ridge’s Brian Gaffney tied for fifth with Young.
Rounding out the top ten were Kyle Baehler, Willow Ridge; Rob Labritz, GlenArbor; Patrick Schwarze, Wykagyl; Luke Feehan, Mahopac; Anthony Casalino, Innis Arden; and Peter Kampmann, Manhattan Woods.
Brae Burn played tough, with the average score in the final two rounds well over 75.
Women’s Met Open
Kelly Shon of Harbor Links Golf Club carded five birdies in the final round of the Lincoln Women’s Met Open Championship to win the trophy by three strokes over Alicia Dibos of Winged Foot Golf Club. Shon’s 141 total was the only score under par at Upper Montclair Country Club.
Shon, 23, an LPGA Tour rookie from Port Washington, New York, competed in the event after failing to qualify for the US Women’s Open. Her victory prevented Dibos from taking home the trophy for a record fourth time.
