This master suite comprises a large bedroom,
his-and-hers walk-in closets, and an open-concept bathroom. Because the bedroom is very long and the entrance is in the middle, designer Claire Paquin created two zones: one for sleeping and one for relaxing. Creating two distinct spaces highlighted a wall in the middle of the room that called for a large piece of art that draws the eye in and helps merge the spaces. Matching chandeliers and a long, continuous rug were added to further bring the room together. In the modern bathroom, a floor-to-ceiling Marmara marble accent wall and an open-concept shower with a rainfall shower head and pebble floor make for a true oasis.

The owners of this Scarsdale home have two young children, so they needed a calming retreat. They wanted to incorporate color into the bedroom but in a much more subtle way than in the rest of the house. “A rich mauve was the perfect complement to the creamy, beige tones with hints of gold throughout the space,” says designer Claire Paquin. “We also added some elements to keep the space ‘cooler’ and more contemporary, through the bright artwork, mirrored nightstands, and a black dresser.” The master suite also includes two walk-in closets and a modern white bathroom with double vanity and herringbone floor.

The driving force behind this renovation was the desire for a luxurious master closet. “The clients made an adjacent bedroom available in which to relocate the existing closets, and in doing so opened up the opportunity to create a new sitting area,” says designer Jason Landau. The entry into the suite was also relocated so that the flow into the bedroom, bathroom, and closet was smooth. A double-sided fireplace in the bedroom can be enjoyed from both the bed and sofa. The bathroom was outdated and had an unusual angled vanity. A double vanity was added, and the platform tub was replaced with a freestanding one. Two cabinet colors were used: black for his and white for hers. Crystal light fixtures and cabinet hardware add just the right amount of sparkle.
