It was her own dissatisfaction with working from home that led resident Erin Trostle to open a coworking space in her hometown of Pound Ridge in 2018. Echoing the sentiments of many of her clients, Trostle says, “I found it harder to be productive at home because of distractions; I also found the experience isolating.”
Thanks to the renovation of Pound Ridge Market Square and the feedback she was getting from other working professionals in the area, Trostle got the impetus to open Martin House Workspace (www.martinhouseworkspace.com) right on Westchester Ave.
“I saw the business district could use more foot traffic and that people in our town, who generally seem to work remotely, would benefit from coming to a workspace that provides structure,” Trostle says.
Staige Grymes, a Wilton, CT, resident, a member of Martin House until 2019, says, “The ability to have a dedicated space to come to every day is a great resource.” Grymes says there’s a significant mental-health benefit to being in an office environment. “It allows me to be more focused, and there’s a real sense of camaraderie there.”
Martin House offers clients a number of options for membership, ranging from a monthly Community Membership to an Unlimited Access membership; day rates are offered, as well. An additional perk is that Martin House memberships offer discounts at local businesses and the opportunity to market products and services. “To be successful in the coworking field, you have to offer value-added services,” Trostle explains.
Trostle points out that Martin House draws clients from a 15-mile radius. “There are a number of towns in Northern Westchester and parts of Connecticut that don’t have train stations, and Martin House offers a more professional option than camping out in a coffeehouse all day.”
Westchester has several options when it comes to coworking spaces. More professional than the neighborhood coffeehouse or library, sites like these can offer everything from urban-hub convenience to the corporate vibe of a sprawling office park to the serenity of cozy and bucolic Hudson River views.
