Martha Stewart’s American-Made Awards Highlights The Best Of America

We’re all about highlighting the region’s homegrown treasures—and their creators—which is why I’m insisting you enter yourself or your favorite local artisan into the running for the 2014 Martha Stewart American Made Awards (accepting nominations through August 29). What is American Made? Bedford’s own Stewart leads this program, that, according to the site, “spotlights the maker, supports the local, and celebrates the handmade.” Moreover:

Each year Martha Stewart Living honors a group of makers, craftspeople, small-business owners, and innovators from across the country in four key categories, crafts, design, food, and style. They are recognized for their dedication to creative entrepreneurship and to building successful businesses and communities.

That means your small-batch honey brand could be one of 1,000 finalists—200 of those slots can be won wild-card-style by garnering the most shares on Facebook or Twitter—selected to compete for 10 awards, including an Audience Choice Winner. (Even nominees that don’t make the pool of 1,000 are published on the site, FYI.)

The prize: a (short in your case) trip for two to the American Made event in NYC this fall—where you’ll hobnob with other forward-thinking upstarts and attend panels by Stewart, Martha Stewart Living editors, and industry leaders; a spot in the American Made Market (which you can submit to even if you don’t win*); $10,000 (!); a pro-produced video; and the opportunity to be featured in Martha Stewart Living and on SiriusXM.

The judges panel will start selecting finalists—based on innovativeness, creativity, and originality; workmanship; appearance; and embodiment of the American Made theme—on a rolling basis starting June 23, so get your nomination published now! (An ending note: I think we’ll all be disappointed if our great big state is represented solely by Brooklyn.)

*Makers and products are handpicked each month by Stewart and the mag’s editors
