Lately, our homes have served as our offices, kids’ classrooms, gyms, and our safe havens. In the same room where chaos can ensue, we may later practice a vinyasa flow or guided meditation. Designer Amy Ormond’s brand, Yogamere, offers luxe wellness accessories that can seamlessly blend into any room, making creating a home sanctuary easy.
Ormond founded Yogamere after being asked to design a home gym and yoga studio for a client. A resident of Irvington, Ormond felt that fitness accessories on the market lacked elegance. Her background in interior and product design uniquely positioned her to create yoga and meditation accessories in neutral shades and rich fabrics for a sophisticated aesthetic. She sources fabrics from Nepal and India and hand draws designs and patterns for the product line — which includes yoga mats, cashmere and silk eye pillows, and cotton-and-velvet meditation cushions. Ormond’s hope is that clients will incorporate more yoga, meditation, deep breathing, and relaxation into their everyday lives if they feel comfortable having their accessories displayed within the home.
“It’s about taking care of yourself. There’s no reason the things you bring into your home for wellness or fitness shouldn’t be beautiful,” explains Ormond. She plans to collaborate with local spas and wellness destinations; her products are currently available on her site, www.yogamere.com, and are shipped from her Dobbs Ferry studio.
