Scarsdale resident Shira Tabib creates a clean skincare label with a face serum that features all-vegan, cruelty-free ingredients.

Since the start of COVID-19, the focus in the beauty industry has shifted from makeup to skincare. A new product to consider trying is a face serum by Scarsdale resident Shira Tabib, from her new skincare line, Lulaav.

Her idea to create a label came about five years ago, when her daughter asked her what cream she used for her face. Tabib then realized that she could not pronounce half the ingredients. She looked for a skincare brand she would feel comfortable with her daughter wearing yet couldn’t find one.

“I originally formulated it for my daughter,” says Tabib of Lulaav. “If I’m going to put it on her skin, it had to be the cleanest of clean ingredients.”

Tabib created a small “laboratory” in her laundry room and tested prototypes of the skincare product she created. She then started getting feedback from friends. “Before I knew it, I had 20 women asking me [about my skincare].”

The current product available in her line is a face serum, which contains all-vegan, cruelty-free ingredients, 26 botanicals, and a bioactive floral complex. It is a product inspired largely by Tabib’s roots. “My parents were entrepreneurs, and I wanted to follow in their footsteps. My grandmother in Israel would use [skincare] products that she made herself.”

Tabib sources ingredients from all over the world: aloe juice from the USA and South America, plum seed from Turkey, rose flower oil from Bulgaria, geranium from Egypt, and dates from Israel.

The ingredients are high-quality, as Tabib “didn’t want to cut any corners.” No parabens, phthalates, or synthetic fragrances are used. The product is “all-natural, from Mother Earth, from the planet,” Tabib explains. “It absorbs super quick; it’s a light formula, not too thick.”

While she intends to create more products for her skincare line, she started with the serum, as it’s the “foundation of a woman’s skincare regimen.”
