New Dish
Under the canopy on the deck of Sam’s of Gedney Way in White Plains is a new seasonal modern barbecue restaurant, BBQ Shack. Open from May to October only, the 45-seat space has tables covered with navy blue linen and topped with white butcher paper; red, white, and blue stars and Edison bulb lighting hang from above. House-made cheddar corn bread is brought to the table while diners decide upon local craft beers, house-made sangrias and margaritas, fresh lemonade, and cold brew organic teas. On the menu: locally sourced, slowly roasted meats carved daily including dry rubbed St Louis ribs, Carolina pulled pork, and braised beef brisket in a Texas-style charred tomato-onion jus; chipotle wings, grilled shrimp tacos, sweet corn pudding, and honey jalapeño biscuits. Dessert choices include red and yellow watermelon, classic strawberry shortcake, or an ice cream sundae.
Hankering for something big and porky? With 48 hours notice and a minimum of 15 people, you can have your own 30-lb roasted suckling pig plus sides.
BTW: Sam’s sister company is The Great American BBQ Co. (www.thegreatamericanbbq.com), a caterer of backyard and corporate barbecue events in the tri-state area, so they know their way around a smoker.
