Famed chef, food critic, writer, and culinary adventurer Anthony Bourdain has died. The award-winning 61-year-old CIA graduate was on location in France filming a segment for his hit series Parts Unknown, when he was found in his hotel room Friday morning by friend and chef Eric Ripert. CNN confirmed Bourdain’s passing in a statement, listing the cause of death as suicide.
“It is with extraordinary sadness we can confirm the death of our friend and colleague, Anthony Bourdain. His talents never ceased to amaze us and we will miss him very much. Our thoughts and prayers are with his daughter and family at this incredibly difficult time,” the network said.
In a career spanning decades, Bourdain was no stranger to Westchester’s food scene. (He notably did an entire episode of No Reservations in the Hudson Valley, culminating at X2O Xaviars on the Hudson in 2010. You can check out the video below.)
We thought it only fitting to allow Westchester’s chefs and restaurateurs to give Bourdain the more personal send-off he deserves.
Chef Peter Kelly, X2O:
Chef Kelly added in an email to Westchester Magazine, “Anthony Bourdain was a huge personality. He brought us along on wonderful culinary excursions. He connected food and culture in a way few have been able to. His outsized personality will live on through the many people he has inspired and touched through his writing and television shows.”
