Let Peekskill's RameNesque Wash Away Your Wet Winter Weather Woes

This local noodle house is serving up all-natural delights sure to warm you up and brighten your day—even when Mother Nature isn’t cooperating.

Spring technically begins on March 20, but we’re right now we’re in that odd, slushy weather cycle between an enjoyable winter wonderland and fun, balmy weather. The perfect cure? A big, steaming bowl of ramen—it’s one of the best pick-me-ups when you’re dealing with yucky weather. And RameNesque in Peekskill is the perfect place to warm up or dry off.

RameNesque has some of the best ramen in the county (it won Best Ramen at 2014’s Best of Westchester party, and it boasts a coveted four-and-a-half-star rating on Yelp), and it’s also cozy and welcoming. The place has a cute café vibe with warm lighting, crooked tabletops, and glassware that slants; the décor and the friendly staff make you feel right at home, even if you had to trek through mud and melting snow to get there.

RameNesque’s new beer menu features Japanese drinks like Sapporo and Asahi (lagers), but other countries like America, England, Belgium, and Mexico are represented as well.

More incentive: RameNesque is now licensed to serve alcohol. (The last time we wrote about it, the license was pending.) There’s a good selection of bottled beer, by-the-glass wine, and, of course, sake.

RameNesque offers ramen in three styles: shoyu (traditional soy sauce flavor), miso, and tom yum (fiery and tangy Thai flavor). You can pair these with veggies, chicken, or pork. I opted for the tom yum, and though it wasn’t quite as spicy as expected, it had an extra kick without overpowering the other flavors.

Although ramen is the real star here, the dumplings are still very tempting.

I recommend starting with a plate of gyoza—pan-fried pork and veggie dumplings— or any of the soups or salads before diving into a bowl of ramen. Apps are fine, but the main event—the ramen—is the really what to go for. The noodles are house-made with all-natural ingredients and without MSG. And not only is it fresh and delicious, it’s cheap at $10 per bowl.
