Leros Point to Point celebrates a milestone as Westchester County’s largest ground transportation provider.
In 1983, John Nyikos started Leros Point to Point with only five cars, based out of an office behind a bar in Thornwood. From the bleachers of a Little League game, Nyikos struck up a conversation with a man who was related to the operators of a limousine service in New Jersey that was looking to expand. At the time, Nyikos was employed as the director of human resources for Playland, but he was looking for a business opportunity. Four decades later, that simple, offhand conversation has snowballed into a generational family business and the largest ground-transportation company in both Westchester and Fairfield counties.
“Forty years is a long time, and over the years, it’s been a roller-coaster ride, with a lot of highs and lows,” says John’s son and current company president Jeff Nyikos. “The secret to our longstanding success is the team and company culture we have built over the years. We are a family business, and we treat our employees like family.”
As the years have flown by, Leros has grown in both its fleet and employees by way of acquisition. “We have acquired more than 15 companies over that time frame, and with each one, we add employees to the team, which over the long term makes the overall team stronger,” says Nyikos. In 2003, Leros started offering transportation through its affiliate partners in Europe, with over 550 partners operating more than 25,000 cars. Today, Leros can offer transportation to out-of-country clients in markets like Paris, Brussels, Munich, and London. In the coming months, the company plans to begin offering private-sightseeing day tours in certain European markets.
The year 2018 saw one of the company’s biggest moves: the acquisition of New Jersey-based Royal Coachman Worldwide. The deal added 150 cars and 200 staff members to the Leros team, expanding its service and offerings along the Eastern Seaboard.
Though Leros operates on a global scale, Nyikos remains loyal to the county where it all started and is determined to show the company’s appreciation by supporting the community. Giving back to the local chapters of charities — such as The Institutes of Applied Human Dynamics, The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and the Boys and Girls Club — is not only at the core of the company’s values, says Nyikos, but of the Nyikos family itself.
