Bid adieu to those shapeless modern-day muumuus and sorry-looking sweats! This stylish chain of plus-size fashion boutiques has added what is now its only Westchester location in Pelham Manor. With its target the scores of chic curvier women who prize looking sensational just as much as their size-0 sisters, Lane Bryant, started as a single store by dressmaker Lena Bryant in 1915, now numbers 800 locations nationwide. Specializing in high-quality apparel, it offers the latest pants, tops, and intimate-, active-, and outerwear looks in sizes 14 to 28, from labels like DKNY, Seven7Jeans, Reebok, Spanx, and the like. You’ll find lots of whatever’s hot, including crayon-colored jeans, graphic tees, puffer vests, and riding boots, and plenty of au courant lace, animal prints, sequins, stripes, and color-blocking. Prices are quite reasonable, usually topping out in the $200 range.

A recent transplant from the East Village to New Rochelle, Maria Churchill, a Pratt Institute grad who has done creative directing for Frédéric Fekkai, Victoria’s Secret, and Starwood Hotels, quickly tired of running back to her old neighborhood to find special gifts and home accents. Hence, this new home shop, co-owned with her husband, Kevin McCarthy. There’s lots to love here, thanks to Churchill’s terrific eye. We admired a handsome hammered-metal coffee table ($950) and the one-of-a-kind pieces that she unearths at estate sales and antique shops and has reupholstered, like the comfy pair of blue-and-white paisley upholstered lounge chairs ($2,200) and various python upholstered benches ($450). Merchandise is sourced from across the globe—the New Zealand sheepskin pillows by Auskin ($65 to $115)—to across the county—the graphic-looking recycled cotton throws from In2Green right in Hastings.
