Partner, Advanced Dentistry of Westchester
Walk into Dr. Kenneth Magid’s office, and you’ll find a framed collection of letters. “My riches do not lie in material wealth, but in having a mentor like you!” reads one.
The notes are from students Magid taught at his alma mater, NYU College of Dentistry, where he has taught Honors Esthetics for 18 years, never once drawing a salary. Still, he says, “The rewards are enormous: You get to influence and help mold young professionals who are trying to achieve the highest level they possibly can.”
In that case, they’d only be following in Magid’s footsteps: Throughout his career, he has purveyed not only an exemplary chairside manner but also championed innovation. In fact, some of today’s most popular tooth-whitening methods are based on his patents; he also helped develop drill lights and curing lights, and shepherded digital X-rays through the FDA.
Magid’s practice, Advanced Dentistry of Westchester in Harrison, offers technologies only found at 1% of dental offices nationwide — everything from no-drill cavity repairs to crowns made while the patient waits. He devotes precious time to rendering care and relief to the less fortunate, traveling to the Dominican Republic last year with a group of dental professionals who provided $4 million worth of free procedures.
Last September, Magid was inducted as a Fellow in the American College of Dentistry, an honor bestowed upon just 2% of American dentists. He is also a Fellow of the International College of Dentists, comprising just 4% of dentists around the world.
“All I want to do every day is be better than who I was yesterday — and I’ve been doing this for 50 years, so it’s a hell of a thing to do.”
