The Katonah Classic Stage is set to take over the veteran Hudson Stage Company’s state-of-the-art theater space in Armonk.

After almost a decade of performances, the Hudson Stage Company is set to leave Westchester, allowing room for the young Katonah Classic Stage Company to take over. The Hudson Stage Company had its last performance this past fall after a fulfilling residency in the Whippoorwill Theater, located in Armonk’s North Castle Public Library.

The Hudson Stage Company has a remarkable history in Westchester, presenting a combination of world premieres and contemporary plays. It serves as an ideal opportunity for Westchester residents to enjoy off-Broadway quality shows for an affordable price.

The stage, however, won’t be dark for long; the Katonah Classic Stage Company is set to take over the modern theater in the spring. “Hudson Stage, in leaving their artistic home after many years, helped to pave the way for Katonah Classic Stage to move in seamlessly, and hopes that audiences will welcome and embrace Katonah Classic Stage by supporting their excellent productions at the Whippoorwill,” says Denise Bessette, Hudson’s artistic director.

The Katonah Classic Stage Company was founded in 2019 as a nonprofit theater company, aiming to bring seasonal and professional productions to life. These shows include many Broadway actors, as well as aspiring stars who are hoping to get discovered.

Trent Dawson, the Katonah Classic Stage Founding Artistic Director, adds, “Moving some of our events to the Whippoorwill affords us the opportunity to expand our programming, and make a significant impact in the arts communities surrounding both Bedford and Armonk, while continuing to draw people from the greater Hudson Valley, Connecticut, and the city.”

The Katonah Classic Stage is set to begin its 2023 season this spring with a production of the bittersweet comedy, Later Life, by the playwright A.R Gurney. The show will feature roles fulfilled by many Broadway veterans, such as Carolyn McCormick, Thomas Jay Ryan, and Kelly McAndrew.

According to Director Kathryn Feeley, North Castle Library is thrilled to have another professional theater company in its residence. “We are excited to welcome KCS to the Whippoorwill Theater and we look forward to hosting their productions of classic plays,” she exclaims.
