Baseball Hall-of-Famer, former Yankees manger, and Harrison homeowner Joe Torre will be hosting a charity event at Bloomingdale’s on December 3.
For the event, Bloomingdale’s will be donating 10-percent of all sales to Joe Torre’s Safe At Home Foundation. The event will have hors d’oeuvres, refreshments, live DJ music, and a chance for attendees to win prizes. According to a press release, the first 50 Bloomingdale’s Loyalists who spend $500 at the event will be privy to an exclusive meet and greet with Torre himself.
Joe Torre started the Safe At Home Foundation with his wife Ali in 2002 to combat domestic violence through education and counseling. After growing up as a witness to domestic violence in his own household, he wanted to help prevent and treat the damage done in abusive households. Torre has opened four counseling centers in Westchester and helped thousands of local youth deal with their troubled home lives.
“I think [my childhood experiences] made me a little more sensitive,” said Torre in an interview with Westchester Magazine last year. “It’s very satisfying that you’ve put your hand on the kids’ shoulders and let them know you care about them, and something as simple as that lets them know that they’re not alone and it’s not their fault.”
