Jaclyn Marie Kelleher and Adam Trebing Wedding

Most seniors spend their final semesters consumed with fears of entering the “real world,” yet the end of senior year marked the beginning of Jaclyn Kelleher and Adam Trebing’s story.

It was instant attraction for the couple, when they met at a local hotspot for students at University of Connecticut. They dated throughout their senior year , graduating in 2006 and then continuing the relationship long distance. Jaclyn lived in New York and Adam lived in Connecticut until he proposed two years later.

They were aboard a New York harbor cruise to celebrate their two year anniversary. While dining on their main course, Adam asked if they could exchange their anniversary cards. At the end of his card, he wrote, “This leaves only one question …” Adam brought Jaclyn to the dance floor where they slow-danced for a little before he popped the question. “I turned my back around and he was already on his knee,” Jaclyn recalls. Suddenly, she found she couldn’t breathe, had tears running down her face, and was trembling. He said, “I love you so much, Babe. You mean the world to me. Will you marry me?” She stood there in shock so long that one of the band members asked, over the microphone, “What is your answer?” Eventually, she yelled an exuberant “Yes!”

The bride is a credit markets analyst at the Royal Bank of Scotland in Stamford, Connecticut, and the groom is a financial reporting analyst at the same bank.

The couple, who also live in Stamford, chose St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church for their ceremony because they wanted the church they attended during their engagement to serve as the center of building their life together.

The ceremony was the most important part for the couple. “We picked out every single reading that inspired us and related to our relationship the most,” Jaclyn says. They also added other personal touches. Each of their mothers lit a celebratory candle in honor of the bride and groom. Together, the couple lit a unity candle to represent their passage of marriage. “We wanted to make the ceremony special and unique to us,” Jaclyn says.

After visiting a number of venues, Jaclyn found just what she was looking for in the Glen Island Harbour Club in New Rochelle. “I was impressed with the elegance of the facility and the view from the banquet rooms overlooking the Long Island Sound,” she says. “I also liked the shape and placement of the tables and felt that the gleaming chandeliers and colored lights created an elegant ambience.”

Jaclyn’s gown was as an exclusive Pnina Tornai tulle gown that was hand-sketched by Pnina Tornai herself and featured her signature corset design with a mermaid bodice shape and a sweetheart neckline. Swarovski crystals adorned the entire gown. The cathedral veil was also a Pnina Tornai design that was approximately nine feet long.

For her bridesmaids, Jaclyn chose mermaid-shaped satin dresses by Bill Levkoff. A white sash tied in the back, offsetting the soft rose shade of the dresses. The flower girl dresses by Alfred Angelo were shaped to match the bride’s gown and had rose sashes to coordinate with the bridesmaids’ dresses.

The color scheme for the wedding was rose pink, white, ivory, and champagne. The color rose pink was showacased in particular because of its pure elegance and beauty. “Its soft, classic, elegant, warm, and sophisticated,” Jaclyn explains. “It also was my favorite color ever since I was a little girl.”

Favors for the guests were Champagne glasses printed with the couples’ names and wedding date. Glen Island Harbour Club’s pastry chef, Andres Perez, created a five-tier yellow sponge cake with a strawberry and Bavarian cream filling. Satin rose-colored ribbon accented the bottom of each tier and it was decorated with pink and white roses.

Following the ceremony, 200 guests celebrated in style at the Glen Island Harbor club. Arriving guests were presented with Champagne, berries, and mineral water. Inside, the décor matched the glamorous, elegant theme right down to the crystals that Arcadia Floral put in the vases.

The guests enjoyed a feast of delectable foods. There was a cocktail hour filled with seasonal canapés and chilled displays. Later came specialty stations of pasta, Mediterranean seafood, and rotisserie beef, pork, and turkey. For an appetizer, guests enjoyed an Italian antipasto of three-cheese rustica, mozzarella, and provolone cheese; prosciutto; peppers; olives; and Italian field greens followed by an intermezzo of lemon sorbet. The dinner menu offered a choice of a char-roasted sliced chateaubriand, Tuscan chicken, or Mirin black sesame-glazed salmon. For dessert, guests received a plate containing a warm chocolate brownie soufflé, a fresh fruit tart, and a vanilla bean cheesecake.

Leaving the celebration, guests were treated to a post-party snack cart that included hot pretzels, ices, and bottled water provided by the Glen Island Harbour Club. “It was one of those touches exclusive to the venue,” Jaclyn said.

The happy newlyweds enjoyed a beautiful, two-week honeymoon on the islands of Maui and Oahu, Hawaii.

When asked how she would describe her and husband’s relationship, Jaclyn replies, “It’s a deeper connection than just love. It’s everything.” Jaclyn describes her experience during their first dance song, “Bless the Broken Road” by Rascal Flatts. “ It was like no one else was in the room but Adam and me,” she says. “It was by far the second best moment of my life, after our ‘I Do’ moment! Our first dance marked the celebration of the beginning of the rest of our lives together.”

Rascal Flatts may have said it best:

This much I know is true
That God blessed the broken road
That led me straight to you
