Westchester Magazine gets lean and mean with the Red, White, and Green.
October is Italian American Heritage Month, and Westchester sure has its share of native sons and daughters. The fact is, Italians began coming here in waves since 1877, making an indelible impact on the county ever since. Did you know, for example, that 21,845 Westchester residents speak Italian at home, making it the third-most-spoken language in the county (after English and Spanish) or that Italy accounts for the fifth-largest foreign-born population among current county residents? So, to celebrate one of Westchester’s truly seminal ethnic groups (at least 37% of county residents are of Italian descent), we sampled the county to learn how deeply steeped they are in Red, White, and Green.
