10 Instagrams That Absolutely Scream ‘Fall in Westchester’

Who really needs to drive upstate for fun foliage with views like these?

Fall is by far one of our favorite times to live in the Hudson Valley, as the rays of sun stream through spotty clouds onto the mottled faces on winding mountains. What we are not particularly fond of is the leaf-peepers hopping the Metro-North up from the City, clogging up our downtown train stations and having the gall to refer to Westchester as “Upstate.” (Some people….)

Still, we can’t even be mad at them. Westchester really does have some of the most beautiful scenery in the country, and who better to know all the perfect, out-of-the-way spots than our own residents? Scroll below to see some of our favorite fall foliage photos from our finest followers!

“What better place for our communities to come together than around a garden,” said the brilliant Shirin Neshat, who was honored on Sunday during the 4th annual Mehregan Persian Autumn festival behind this extraordinary sunset at the fabulous @untermyergardens in Yonkers, New York (the garden is based on a Persian design). Many of Neshat’s famous films are set around gardens and orchards and the metaphorical quality they have as sanctuaries where people live in harmony together. If that’s not a sentiment we all need to embrace right now, I don’t know what is. @marckarimzadeh and I fell in love with the place two years ago because of @nazeemoinian and the garden’s steward and hero Stephen F. Byrns and are happy to personally support. There’s also a must-read piece in @elledecor in our September issue and online now. See all the festivities in stories; and please support by visiting and buying tickets—it’s only a 45-minute Uber from Manhattan! #untermeyergardens

Okay, this last one isn’t technically foliage but we defy you to say you know a more beautiful autumn sight than a big ol’ box of fresh apple cider donuts.

… See? Can’t do it. Told you.
