Ice Bucket Challenge Originator Named Grand Marshal Of Yonkers St. Paddy's Parade

Pat Quinn is an ALS awareness advocate from Yonkers.

Patrick Quinn, a leading advocate for increasing awareness of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) has been selected to lead the Yonkers St. Patrick’s Day parade as the 2016 Grand Marshal.

Quinn, 33, was born and raised in Yonkers and is known as the originator of the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge. He will lead the annual city parade on March 19.

Through the continuation of the Ice Bucket Challenge, a viral video challenge, Quinn has led the charge for raising ALS awareness, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.

He attended St. John the Baptist grade school, Iona Preparatory School, and Iona College. Quinn was diagnosed with ALS in March 2013.

On Sunday, March 6, Tim Rooney Jr., last year’s Grand Marshal, will “Pass The Sash” to Quinn, officially installing him as the new Grand Marshal. The gala celebration will take place in the Good Time Room at the Empire City Casino. Tickets for the gala dinner are $90 per person, and include: An open bar, prime rib or salmon dinner (with a chicken and vegetarian option), complimentary valet parking, and music from the Guss Hayes Band.

The 61st annual Yonkers St. Patrick’s Day Parade will take place on Saturday, March 19 , following a Mass at St. Barnabas High School Chapel on McLean Avenue. The parade starts at 1 pm, at McLean Avenue west of Bronx River Road.
