House of Sports Fitness Center Opens in Ardsley

Donald Scherer was doing too much driving. While running around the metropolitan area to take his two sons to sports practice, he started thinking Westchester parents sure could use a one-stop shop for their kids to play and train for all kinds of sports.

Enter House of Sports. Over the last two years, Elm Street Sports Group, LLC, of which Scherer is CEO, has been working on converting an old warehouse in Ardsley into a 120,000-square-foot “sports Utopia” with four basketball courts, an 80-yard artificial-turf field, a baseball facility, a speed-training and fitness center, party rooms, and a café—as well as a basketball “shooting lab” with eight baskets, cameras that record shooting form, and computer systems that calculate the arc of a shot. There also will be fitness classes and sports leagues for adults.

The complex, which Scherer says cost about $20 million to build, is scheduled to officially open October 9 , after its soft opening late last month. “We’re going to become a great teaching facility,” Scherer promises. “Whatever someone’s goal is in athletics, we’re going to help him or her get there.”
