A bright spot on an otherwise rainy and bleak afternoon a couple of weeks ago was Mount Kisco PR firm Robin Leedy & Associates’ NYC beauty-preview event, held at the Ink48 hotel’s rooftop lounge in Hells Kitchen. With the skyline and Hudson River as a backdrop, light poured in, illuminating vendors’ stations where stylists, bloggers, and beauty editors gathered.
Conair, likely spotting (and pitying) the frizzy, rainy-day braid hanging limply over my shoulder, was the first to approach me. In no time, stylist Tovah Weingarten—who I’m convinced has supernatural hair powers—transformed my damp, curly side-braid into a chic, intricately plaited up-do, completing the look with a cream-colored lace Scunci stick-on.
Weingarten imparted that not only are braided up-dos a perfect go-to for bad hair days, but that they’re very in-style this summer, as seen on many an A-list celebrity who’s worn a wispy/braided look on the red carpet this season—just like mine.
