Human Resource consultant working with small and mid-size firms, outsourcing “administrativia” and enhancing their talent.
Professional Path: “I worked for large firms, got my MBA, went to work for smaller firms, got my Ph.D., and then started my own business.”
Why Westchester: “I have lived in Westchester for 25+ years. It’s a great location and we are surrounded by firms that fit my prospect profile. It’s easy to get to NYC as well as Danbury, Newburgh or Wayne.”
Most Valuable Resources: “The Business Council of Westchester is the best business resource I can think of, but I belong to and am involved in a number of area groups that lead to both prospects and clients.” Additionally, “I ask myself everyday, ‘Did I move my business forward today?’”
Lessons Learned: “I’ve made every mistake you can, but there are two things that I remind myself continuously: I ask myself, ‘Why would anyone give me money?’ and I examine my practices to make sure I am delivering value to my clients.”
Secret to Success: “The secret, for me, is to keep my niche active. That means that I have to do something that others can’t do –
or can’t do profitably.”
Rewarding Moment: “I knew I had made it when I received a call from someone who was not a prospect saying, ‘My boss said we have to have you as our HR consultant. When can you start?’”
What’s Next: Working on developing more exposure through social media and letting the Internet expand the consultancy’s presence.
