The Hōm Market Focuses on Design as a Lifestyle in Hastings-on-Hudson

Led by two Hastings moms, the new interior design and decor store lets shoppers explore local and international home accessories.

An intentionally designed space can offer insight into an owner’s interests and sense of style. Britt Summers and Sandra Dawn recognize this tenet. Their new Rivertowns boutique the hōm market (14 Spring St, Hastings-on-Hudson; thehommarket.com) reflects their own personal styles, while providing shoppers an opportunity to explore their own.

The Hastings moms met in 2020 and in two days decided to become business partners, opening the decor store last summer. The boutique offers internationally sourced accessories, like Turkish rugs, 100% cashmere and yak blankets from Mongolia, Filipino water pots, and vintage lights from Italy, in addition to handmade jewelry and local ceramics.

Dawn explains of the thoughtfully curated collection, “Part of our approach is holistic. ‘How do [homeowners] live in their space?’ We want to help design a room where people can live in the space but not sacrifice beauty for function. Our style is casual elegance.” To achieve this, the partners draw on a diverse and eclectic variety of sources. “We love to support local and worldwide makers. We like a mixture of high and low; vintage and new; an eclectic look that is attainable and beautiful,” says Summers.

“We center around people and what their needs are,” Dawn says, adding, “We are warmer than a showroom.”

The studio also hosts pop-up events. (There is a full kitchen and dining area that accommodates 26 people for culinary or floral-arrangement classes.)

The shop offers domestically and internationally sourced accessories and decor, and serves as a space for pop-up events.

The future of the hōm market, say Dawn and Summers, is to create a Magnolia of the East — a reference to Chip and Joanna Gaines’ lifestyle-and-decor shop and brand. To fulfill that dream, they recently launched, in conjunction with their shop, an interior design studio, STUDIO hom, staffed by a full-service design team.
