Here's Where to Get an Out-of-the-Ordinary Work Out in Westchester

Who hasn’t wondered what it would be like to grab hold of a trapeze and swing across a three-ring circus? While you might not join Cirque du Soleil after a single session, Westchester Circus Arts (below) gives participants a good sense of the physical demands of this exhilarating line of work. During these fun group classes at the Shames JCC on the Hudson in Tarrytown, parties and small groups can experience inverting on a 30-foot silk rope, negotiating a trapeze, and even juggling and balance work. You just might find joining the circus amounts to some pretty exhaustive exercise.

If you’ve ever watched the hit NBC show American Ninja Warrior and think, I can do that, now you can at The Westchester Gym in Elmsford. Noel Reyes, a five-time American Ninja Warrior competitor, was tasked with creating and leading classes in Westchester’s first Ninja Warrior Room open to the public. The gym offers separate courses for kids and adults, where ninjas-in-training can try their hands at the warped wall, salmon ladder, ring toss, and other feats of upper-body strength.
