Replacing longtime favorite (30 years!) Ernesto’s Ristorante is Luka’s Italian Cuisine (130 W Post Rd, White Plains; 914.607.3535), a fine-dining restaurant by the Brucaj family that runs Tre Angelina in White Plains and Monroe. On the menu: house-made fettuccine Bolognese, lobster ravioli, and grilled swordfish with avocado, onions, and marinated plum tomatoes. A 100-person catering room, plus private wine cellar with room for up to 60 guests, are available for special events.
Stephanie Small of Waccabuc and Brian Moss of Somers, who own UnCorked Wine & Spirits in the Somers Commons Shopping Center, opened UnWined Bar & Kitchen (80 Rte 6, Baldwin Pl, Somers; 914.519.6190) next door in July. The 30-plus wines-by-the-glass are complemented by Chef Joe Romano’s menu of grilled flatbreads, Mediterranean boards, and raw-bar items.
The Nikkei of Peru (17 Purdy Ave, Rye; 914.481.8880), serving Japanese cuisine with a Peruvian slant, has opened in the space that once held Koo. Chef/co-owner Asa Jong, former sushi chef at Manhattan’s Nobu 57 for 10 years, offers such dishes as rock-shrimp tempura, sea scallops with jalapeño salsa, plus a selection of traditional and specialty sushi rolls. The word nikkei refers, among other things, to people of Japanese ancestry who live abroad as citizens of other countries (Peru saw an influx of Japanese immigrants from 1900 to the mid-20th century).

​Iso Japanese Cuisine (1086 N Broadway, Yonkers; 914.963.0777) has debuted at the newly renovated Boyce Thompson Center. The 80-seat restaurant’s menu primarily has Japanese favorites, like udon, teriyaki, signature rolls, but also a smattering of fusion items, such as tuna pizza, blue-crab fajita, and a sesame tuna steak with seaweed risotto.

The first location of East Coast mini-chain Bango Bowls (16 Harwood Ct, Scarsdale; 914.725.0555) has opened in the county. Offerings include açai and pitaya bowls, poke bowls, oatmeal bowls, smoothies, and cold-brew coffees.
It will be a battle between New York and New Jersey on September 16 at lohud.com’s Food Truck Mash-Up at Empire City Casino at Yonkers Raceway, where guests can taste offerings from more than 20 food trucks and vote on their favorites.
Dobbs Ferry Waterfront Park will host the inaugural Rivertown Public Market, a celebration of local food and purveyors (e.g., Campbell Meats, Mr. Koo’s Kitchen, La Milpa de Rosa Tortilleria, Harper’s, Baked by Susan) on September 22 from 11 a.m.–4 p.m.
The 9th annual Great Chappaqua Bake Sale, which supports Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign, takes place in Bell Middle School September 29 at the Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival.
