Here's the Latest From Weschester's Foodie Scene

All the newest news and hippest happenings in the county’s restaurant world.

After a run at the nearby farmers’ market, Gaucho Burger Company (66-68 Mamaroneck Ave, White Plains; 914.750.4888) opened a brick-and-mortar location in late August. The Latino-infused counter-service burger joint’s owner is Colombian-born Moises Mera, previously of Tango Grill and Gaucho Grill, among other restaurants. There are hefty beef, chicken, pork, and lamb burgers and Argentinian Milanesa (breaded cutlet) sandwiches, both lathered in chimichurri-mayo, myriad starchy fried sides, hand-squeezed lemonade, and fresh tropical juices. Don’t forget a spoonful (or three) of the gratis chimichurri on whatever you order.

Rui Cunha (previously of Bronxville’s Elia Taverna and prior to that Oporto in Hartsdale) and wife Vasiliki Cunha have opened Pappous Greek Kitchen (1983 Commerce St, Yorktown Heights; 914.455.2111), replacing Eddy’s Grillhouse. Traditional Greek fare is offered, including gyros, souvlaki, keftedes (Greek-style meatballs), and ktapodi (chargrilled octopus). Don’t miss the housemade sangrias.

Crystal Massi of Mamaroneck and Michelle Mazzullo of Harrison have opened Moonlight on the Ave (308 Mamaroneck Ave, Mamaroneck; 914.630.2062), where the longstanding Café Mozart once was. On the menu: a hummus platter, beef empanadas, salads and sandwiches, and plated entrées, such as seafood pasta, chicken schnitzel, and three-bean vegan chili. Both women were servers at Café Mozart.

Woody’s Bar-B-Q

Jacksonville, FL-based 25-plus-location Woody’s Bar-B-Q (1789 Central Ave, Yonkers; 914.361.1300) has opened its first county outpost. Signature items include baby back ribs, The Sloppy Woody (barbecued pork sandwich), a Hawaiian burger topped with grilled pineapple, Southern-fried catfish, and a Texas beef-brisket sandwich. Other restaurant chains are set to have opened their second county locations by this month: P.F. Chang’s is bringing its lettuce wraps and Dynamite shrimp to Ridge Hill Shopping Center (1 Ridge Hill Blvd, Yonkers), and Shack Shack (353-371 Central Ave) is debuting in Hartsdale’s Dalewood Shopping Center.

Scheduled to open by sometime this month is Via Forno Wood Fired Pizza & Vinoteca (6-10 Garth Rd, Scarsdale) in a space that once housed a 7-Eleven — a certain upgrade.
