What do you get when you combine a world-famous beer brand with an award-winning actor? A pretty killer advertising campaign, apparently.
After being named the 2013 winner of “Best Tasting Low Calorie Lager” by the World Beer Championships, White Plains-based Heineken USA has announced the launch of its “Best Tasting Light” campaign featuring Neil Patrick Harris. The campaign, which is intended to introduce consumers to the reformulated and repackaged Heineken Light product, will include a new TV commercial and a series of digital videos.
“We want everyone to try Heineken Light this summer and we think Neil Patrick Harris is the perfect guy to help tell the world that this is the best-tasting low-calorie lager in a witty and humorous way,” says Colin Westcott-Pitt, VP of Marketing for Heineken USA.
Sounds simple enough, right?
Yet, the campaign didn’t come without obstacles. For one, alcohol regulations in America don’t allow spokespeople to drink on camera. That’s why Heineken partnered up with the witty Harris to make light of the fact. In one digital advertisement, he quips, “Apparently there are rules about drinking beer in commercials, so I’m drinking it over here,” promptly stepping off camera and taking an audible sip from the bottle. The audience gets it.
Heineken hopes that the campaign will boost both sales and appeal for their new lager, and in conjunction they’ll carry out extensive sampling for adults 21 and older.
