Thomas A. Panek will succeed William D. Badger as President and CEO of Guiding Eyes for the Blind.  Prior to Guiding Eyes, Panek was the VP of Relationship Management at National Industries for the Blind in Virginia. He was responsible for leading the organization while expanding employment opportunities for the blind.

The Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester (BGCNW) recently elected new officers to its board of directors. R. Todd Rockefeller will now serve as president, Muffin Dowdle will serve as vice president, and Marc Weisenfreund will serve as secretary. Linda Mahon has been reappointed treasurer for her second term.

•        R. Todd Rockefeller has been a member of the BGCNW board of directors since 2000 and is a Club alumnus. A partner at DRSW Insurance and past president of the Westchester chapter of the Independent Insurance Agents and Brokers of New York, he currently serves as secretary treasurer on the organization’s board.
•        Muffin Dowdle of Pound Ridge has been a real estate agent in the Northern Westchester community for 25 years. A Club alumnae herself, Dowdle later returned to the Club as a board member and has now been serving for nearly 20 years.
•        Marc Weisenfreund began his career on the BGCNW board of directors more than 18 years ago.                               
•        Bedford Corners resident Linda A. Mahon works in private-wealth management and asset management. She was formerly vice president at US Trust Company, Solomon Smith Barney, and Paribas Asset Management, among other major Wall Street firms.

HEINEKEN USA has appointed Nuno Teles as the company’s new chief marketing officer. He joins HEINEKEN USA from HEINEKEN Brazil, where he served as CMO and successfully grew the Heineken brand by 500% over his four-year tenure, helping it achieve the top market share position among all premium imported brands in the country. Named the 2012 “Best Marketing Professional” by LIDE (a group of the top 100 companies in Brazil), Teles began his career at Unilever, spending eight years in a variety of marketing and innovation roles across Europe.

NEW BUSINESSES, RELOCATIONS, OPERATIONS

High-end women’s fashion destination Mary Jane Denzer will move from its current space on Mamaroneck Avenue to a 5,000 sq-ft space at The Ritz Carlton Westchester. The Mamaroneck Ave location will remain fully operational until the boutique settles at the Ritz in late spring or early summer of 2014.

Loehmann’s, a New York-based fashion retailer, will close all 39 stores, including its White Plains location on Tarrytown Rd, by the end of March. The retailer was started in Brooklyn by Frieda Loehmann in 1921 and was a staple for Westchester shoppers seeking bargains on men’s and women’s designer clothing.

The Village Board of Mamaroneck is considering two differing proposals regarding the proposed expansion of Hampshire Country Club. Of the two separate options under consideration, Hampshire’s preferred plan would add 121 high-end condominium units to its property. According to club, the plan would preserve over 90% of the property’s open space, keep approximately 125 jobs, create tax revenue, and allow Hampshire to continue as a full-service country club while converting the golf course into housing.

NEW ROCHELLE TO ECHO BAY DEVELOPER: ‘NOT BUYING IT’

Forest City Residential has asked New Rochelle to “immediately” reimburse the company in $2 million in expenses related to its failed proposal to create massive waterfront development at Echo Bay, citing the terms of a memorandum of understanding the two sides signed in 2008. According to the city, the developer invested in the project voluntarily, maintaining that its claims have no legal basis. For its part, Forest City says its claim for reimbursement is a result of the City Council’s refusal to approve a land disposition agreement in November, effectively killing the project.

The county’s Local Development Corporation (LDC) approved a resolution giving Pace University access to $98 million in tax-exempt bond financing for the renovation of its Pleasantville campus, the most extensive improvement plan in the campus’ history. The project, which consolidates the school’s Briarcliff campus into the Pleasantville campus, is expected to help attract a high-level, global pool of students and revitalize the local economy at no extra cost to taxpayers. This project will create 600 high-wage construction jobs and strive to source building materials locally.

The Cuomo Administration has created the Common Core Implementation Panel to aid the implementation of the new curriculum, prior to the end of the legislative session in June. The Common Core was first implemented in New York classrooms last school year. Stanley Litow, IBM’s vice president for corporate citizenship and corporate affairs, will serve as chairman of the panel.
