Healthy Heart Fridays: The Cure For Cooped-Up Kids

As you probably know already, February is American Heart Month. Every Friday in February, we’re going to spotlight information about heart health, things you can do locally to keep that heart pumping, or ways to support the American Heart Association. (Remember, you can always donate to the American Heart Association online.)

Adults aren’t the only ones who need to keep their hearts pumping to stay healthy. Kids’ hearts need just as much attention, but this string of days with sub-freezing temperatures has them more likely to stay cooped up inside than running around outside and making snowmen. Since that’s likely to drive you and them crazy, bring them to one of these indoor spaces where they can release all that pent-up energy.

Bounce U

Elmsford; (914) 874-5200

This inflatable wonderland will have kids literally bouncing off the walls—in a good way. “Open Bounce” sessions are scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 4 to 5:30 pm; the cost is $12.95 per child, and reservations are required. If you want to get into the bouncing act, family nights are scheduled on Wednesdays from 6 to 8 pm (kids $13.95, parents are free).

The Cliffs at Valhalla

Valhalla; (914) 328-7625

If your kids are climbing the walls, bring them here, where they can try to scale a rock face. Open climbs ($18) are scheduled Monday to Thursday (3 to 6 pm), Friday (3 to 8 pm), and on weekends (all day). If they take to the sport and want something a little more structured, in the spring you can sign them up for the Vikings Club, where they’ll have 12 sessions ($445) to learn the basics of rock-climbing.

Leapin’ Lizards

Port Chester; (914) 937-5867

One of Westchester’s many indoor playgrounds, this complex’s name says it all: Your kids will be leaping. General admission, which starts daily at 10 am, is normally $13.99 per child, but if you hurry you can take advantage of the winter two-for-one coupon.
