With Westchester’s gyms reopening starting August 24, not everyone is rushing to get back to the weight bench. Here are eight local classes you can take outdoors to stay healthy while also staying socially distant.
Three Westchester locations
All three of Westchester’s F45 locations are currently offering outdoor classes — predominantly track-based but also including Calypso/Recovery from Scarsdale. Athletes are encouraged to bring water, a mat, and some determination since we’ve all probably been slacking a bit since March.
404 Irvington St, Pleasantville
Your favorite ninja warrior gym is going outdoors for the fall, with “Grit on the Go” kids classes at various locations and dates throughout the county. Check the full schedule for safety details and when you might want to sign your kids up.
343 Manville Rd, Pleasantville
Looking for a high-intensity training sesh? Until the team reopens next week they’re holding select outdoor classes for members and drop-ins. Small group training is also available outdoors for those who would prefer something a bit more scaled to their abilities or risk comfort level.
1 Westchester Park Dr, Harrison
Until it can open indoor spaces next week, Life Time Westchester in Harrison is offering a pretty hefty assortment of its activities outdoors, even free-swim in its lap and leisure pools. Classes include Fire and Flow yoga sessions, cycling, and more.
154 E Boston Post Rd, Mamaroneck
Until this Mamaroneck fitness center reopens its doors, regulars can enjoy “Push Max Harbor Island,” a $20 boot camp held at the nearby park that’s also great for drop-ins — and is a very affordable way to get a jumpstart on combating that little belly we’ve been growing sitting on the couch all summer.
653 Commerce St, Thornwood
This Thornwood studio holds virtual yoga and meditation classes, as well as an outdoor version of its popular Rebel Flow sittings at its location just a few minutes from the county’s center. Morning classes are popular, with a few evening classes on weeknights for those of us still busy working from home.
Tovami might be one of the better-known yoga studios in Westchester, thanks to its partnership every year with the county in putting on Sunset Yoga in the Park and county parks and beaches throughout the summer months. Registration is open for Wednesdays through September 16.
62 Main St, Tuckahoe
91 Montgomery Ave, Scarsdale
Yoga Haven is offering outdoor sessions in Scarsdale and Tuckahoe, as well as Rye Brook and Bronxville. Mixed-level classes are limited in size and require both social distancing and masks when not on a yoga mat.
