Plant-based nutrition bars probably don’t get your taste buds excited, but Hartsdale-based Amrita Health Foods just may change that. The company’s seed-based and soy-, gluten-, and dairy-free nutrition bars come in a variety of flavors (mango coconut, cranberry raisin, apricot strawberry, apple cinnamon, pineapple chia, and chocolate maca) that are perfect for an afternoon pick-me-up—a healthier and more filling option than, say, a bag of chips. Since the bars are blended rather than baked, they retain all those nutrients (fiber, protein, and antioxidants) your body craves. Out of the six flavors, our favorites were the chocolate maca and apple cinnamon. With the chocolate maca’s brownie-like taste and texture, and the apple cinnamon’s ode to homemade apple pie, the bars seemed more like a cheat meal than a health bar. And since Amrita’s bars are raw, they retain their moistness, saving them from the dry chalkiness of most health bars. Find out more at www.amritahealthfoods.com.
