Some time ago, I found myself wanting to go back to Gus’s Franklin Park in Harrison, the memorabilia-filled, jukebox-playing seafood place I’d written about in August’s story on under-the-radar restaurants. Fish and chips and a black and tan would be just the thing. Their adjoining seafood store has always been very good, but when I swung by I was surprised to see it transformed into The Market at Gus’s—a way larger place selling not only seafood that looks like it might jump up and slap you in the face, but top-notch meats, sausages, cheeses, pastas, sauces, Italian nougats, and their own Gus-branded Manhattan and New England clam chowders and lobster bisque. Now we have to decide whether to eat at the restaurant or buy stuff and have company over.
