Good News, Foodies: Dishcrawl Comes To Westchester Restaurants

Dishcrawling is a growing trend in the foodie world, and now it’s a thing in Westchester.

Foodies seeking foodies, check out Dishcrawl, a 250-city startup that’s branched into our area with food crawls in Greenwich, Stamford, and White Plains—where I caught up with them. Events are being planned for more Westchester locations.

Here’s how it works: when you sign up, they give you the name of the first restaurant, but the others are kept secret until you get there. The price covers food—three small plates at each place—but drinks and bar tips are extra. And you will drink. Believe me.

So cast your fate to the wind: you’re going where you’re going and meeting whom you meet. You walk from place to place, rain or shine, and it could run late. The heck with it. It’s fun.

Our Dishcrawler-in-chief is bubbly and efficient Emily Giove, a 23-year-old hard-core foodie with her hand in many culinary blogs and festivals. The mixed-age, mostly female crowd met at Gaucho Grill. Then, the big reveal: a sheet printed with the night’s menu showed we would be going to Sofrito and Taleggio. But the evening left plenty of room for serendipity.

When all was said and done, we talked about Gaucho Grill’s scallop scampi with crabmeat stuffing; Sofrito’s Latin sushi with chicken tempura, chorizo, queso fresco, and spicy sofrito mayo; and Taleggio’s rigatoni with crumbled Italian sausage, fontina, smoked mozzarella, parmigiano, roasted bell peppers, and asparagus in creamy tomato sauce. And everyone made a few new friends.
