Mike Miller led from the first round to the last to win the 102nd Westchester Open played at The Saint Andrew’s Golf Club in Hastings. The 32-year-old pro playing out of Knollwood CC lapped the field, finishing at nine under par, a full seven strokes ahead of second place winner Mike Ballo, Jr., of Tamarack CC.
The win was the fifth Westchester Golf Association title won by Miller, who grew up in the county. His father, Bob Miller, was head professional at Knollwood for many years. “It means a lot,” Miller says. “It was the only one in the Westchester area that I hadn’t won.” Miller had won the WGA Amateur, Boys’, and (twice) Junior championships. He also won the NYS Open twice and the venerable Woodstock Open in 2022.
Miller’s final round at Saint Andrew’s was ragged, but he finished the 18 holes at even par 71 after carding six bogeys and six birdies. He had distanced himself from the field in the earlier rounds, though, posting a 65 for the first and 68 for the second.
“I had been playing really well and I knew if I could do my thing, I would be ok,” he says. “I take this with confidence, and to beat a field like this makes me excited about the rest of the summer.”
Mike Ballo, Jr., and Brent Ito posted three-under 68s for the final 18, making them the only two players to deliver red numbers for that round. Ito, Joe Monte of Woodway, and Cian Curley of Trump National Westchester each finished at one-under to round out the top five. Saint Andrew’s head professional Greg Bisconti was in sole sixth place with an even par 213 for the tournament. Timothy Hegarty of Sleepy Hollow and Dylan Gallagher of Rockland CC ended one-over par to share low amateur honors.
This was the first time Saint Andrew’s Golf Club hosted the Westchester Open. The club, founded in 1888, was one of the five founding clubs of the USGA.
