Hit these local courses for stunning landscapes that offer a mix of challenge and leisure for both beginner and pro golfers.

Hudson Hills Golf Course

Considered the gem of the Westchester county-owned courses, Hudson Hills combines large greens with challenging elevation changes for golfers looking for a championship-level experience. At 6,935 yards, the course plays to par 71 with a daunting course rating/slope of 73.7/139.

Pound Ridge Golf Club

Modern master architect Pete Dye’s only New York design, Pound Ridge GC is Westchester’s premier daily-fee course. The 7,165-yard, par 72 course winds through hardwood forests, rock outcroppings, and fescue-covered mounds in a stunning display that entices multiple return rounds. While the course challenges scratch golfers with a 76 rating and 150 slope, five sets of tees make it eminently playable for all.

Saxon Woods Golf Course

Opened to the public in 1931, today’s Saxon Woods stretches to 6,203 yards and plays to par 71. A combination of long-and-demanding and short-and-strategic holes make every round interesting. A limited-flight driving range is also available.

Maple Moor Golf Course

Named for the colorful maples that occupy the grounds, the 6,374-yard, par-71 course offers lush greenery, numerous streams and ponds, and a moderate degree of difficulty. When there, stop for a bite from North Street Tavern and Wood Fired Pizza, which has an elegant outdoor patio.

Dunwoodie Golf Course

Boasting steep slopes, narrow, tree-lined fairways; and sprawling landscapes, Dunwoodie is as beautiful as it is challenging. The 18-hole course lies atop Dunwoodie Heights, in the center of Yonkers, and is a 5,778-yard par 70. There’s a driving range available for night play, a catering facility in the clubhouse, practice greens, and a pro shop.

Sprain Lake Golf Course

Its namesake lake and other water hazards make Sprain Lake a fun test of golf. The 6,110-yard, par-70 course calls for a wide variety of strategic choices and a combination of long- and short-game prowess. A driving range and practice green is also available.

Mohansic Golf Course

Rolling hills, blind shots, and strongly-contoured greens make the 6,558-yard, par-70 Mohansic the most challenging of the county-owned golf courses. Every facet of the game is tested by the narrow, winding fairways and persistent elevation changes. Numerous false fronts make the greens particularly exciting. Amenities include a driving range and pro shop, as well as the Mohansic Grill & Lounge.
