Here Are This Year's Local Golf Tournaments


This year’s local tournament schedule offers wonderful opportunities for golf fans to see their favorites (and future favorites) in action.

Kicking off the season is the Curtis Cup at Quaker Ridge in Scarsdale. The biennial women’s amateur team competition promises all the excitement of the Ryder Cup in Westchester June 8-10. See pg tktk for more.

The 108th US Open will be played at Shinnecock Hills Golf Course in Southampton June 11-17. This will be the fifth time the club has hosted America’s championship. Retief Goosen won in 2004, the last time the event was played at the exclusive club while Corey Pavin surprised Greg Norman for the win in 1995

The Northern Trust, the first stage in the four-tournament season-ending Fed Ex Cup Playoffs on the PGA Tour, will be held at Ridgewood CC in Paramus, NJ August 21-26 this year.

Wykagyl Country Club in New Rochelle will host the 103rd Met Open Championship August 21-23. Contending in the metropolitan area’s premier championship will be top pros and amateurs including the Wykagyl Country Club 2017 club champion, 15-year-old George Roessler.

The MGA Public Links Championship will be held at Griffith Harris Memorial GC in Greenwich June 13 Also on the MGA schedule is the 101st edition of the Met Junior Championship, which will be played at Siwanoy CC in Bronxville July 16-19. The MGA Carter Cup is scheduled for Winged Foot GC August 1.

Sunningdale CC will host the 96th Westchester Open, staged by the Westchester Golf Association on July 9-10. The Met PGA Championship is set for Wee Burn CC in Darien on September 24-26. Saint Andrew’s GC in Hastings is home to the Women’s Metropolitan Amateur Championship to be held June 11. The WMGA will present the Junior Girls’ Open Championship at Rye GC on August 22.

The NY State Open is scheduled for July 17-19 at Bethpage Black. If you want to qualify, you can tee it up June 7 at Hollow Brook GC in Cortlandt Manor or Trump National Westchester in Briarcliff Manor.
