Golf Course Trio Magnifies Fall Splendor at the Emerson Resort & Spa

Three championship Catskill-region courses are on tap for guests at the Mt. Tremper resort.

Fall may be shaping up as warm as summer, but that’s great news for golfers who are enjoying the extra long temperate season. One of the best ways to do that is with a stay-and-play package at the Emerson Resort & Spa just a short drive away in the Catskills near Woodstock, NY.

The Emerson provides guests with opportunities to play three fine area courses, all offering private club amenities and breathtakingly beautiful autumn scenery. They include the historic Woodstock Golf Club, challenging Lazy Swan Village Golf & Country Club, and a Robert Trent Jones gem, Wiltwyck Golf Club.

Golfers playing Woodstock Golf Club walk in the spike marks of true golfing legends. Since this Ralph Twitchell design opened for play in 1929, the course has welcomed Grand Slam winner Gene Sarazen; 1955 PGA Championship and 1957 Masters champ Doug Ford; esteemed golf instructor and player Bob Toski; multiple PGA Tour winner Ken Green; as well as many of today’s top PGA club professionals from New York who every summer are in Woodstock, NY to play in the historic Emerson Resort & Spa Woodstock Open.

Woodstock GC is a private 9-hole facility with lightning-fast small greens and picturesque mountainside views. Back nine tee marker placements on many of the holes are distinctly different, making for an exciting 5,600-yard par 70 round.

Lazy Swan Golf & Country Club Village offers some of the finest panoramic views in the Catskills but you’ll need to focus your full attention on accurate shot placement on the 6,300-yard par-70 course.

Pure ball-striking is always good, but you should be prepared to “think” your way around this Barry Jordan-designed course. Whether it’s deciding where to place the tee shot from a massive elevation drop to a fairway and green protected by water on the par-five 8th or testing your fate by going for a sucker pin placement on par-three 9th hole, Lazy Swan forces plenty of decision making throughout the day.

Wiltwyck Golf Club, a semi-private facility about a 20-minute drive from the Emerson Resort & Spa, is a Robert Trent Jones Sr. design that weaves its 18-hole championship challenge through the Catskills’ natural beauty alongside breath-taking vistas and terrain.

The course offers multiple tees that stretch it from 5,719 to 6,891 yards. Holes like the dog-leg right par-four 9th challenge all aspect of a player’s game including their ability to curve the ball and hit long irons with accuracy. Wiltwyck requires players to score with all clubs in their bag on its interesting combination of long but fair and short but challenging holes.

A stay at the Emerson Resort and Spa enables you to play all three of these upstate gems. The resort features spacious accommodations in the contemporary Inn and Adirondack-style Lodge, shopping in the Country Stores, and the World’s Largest Kaleidoscope. Emerson guests also enjoy an award-winning Spa and numerous seasonal activities beyond golf like hiking and biking. The nearby towns of Woodstock, Phoenicia, and Saugerties are fun to explore, too!
