The Saint Andrew’s Golf Club in Hastings will host the American Junior Golf Association UHY NY Junior tournament for the first time August 5-8. The field will consist of 96 boys and girls (ages 12-19) from around the world and includes Kuangyu Chen of Shenzhen, China, the only Rolex Junior All-American. Twelve juniors inside the top-200 of the Rolex AJGA Rankings are scheduled to compete at the tournament.
The tournament begins like many PGA or LPGA events with an 18-hole qualifier to be held on Monday, which gives players the opportunity to “play their way in” to the main tournament. Following the qualifier that day will be an official practice round. The 54-hole tournament will begin Tuesday and run through Thursday. The event is free and open to the public and spectators are encouraged to attend.
Saint Andrew’s head golf professional Greg Bisconti says the prestigious tournament reflects the historic club’s focus on the future of the game. “We host programs for young players of all ability levels,” he says, “and serve as home course to two collegiate and three high school golf programs.” The club’s ongoing commitment to growing the game of golf includes recent investments in a state-of-the-art Learning Center and the expansion of its Golf Training Campus to six dedicated skill-based practice areas.
The American Junior Golf Association is a nonprofit organization dedicated to the overall growth and development of young men and women who aspire to earn college golf scholarships through competitive junior golf. AJGA alumni include Rickie Fowler, Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, Tiger Woods, Paula Creamer, Ariya Jutanugarn, Cristie Kerr, Stacy Lewis, Brittany Lincicome, Anna Nordqvist, Inbee Park and Lexi Thompson.
