In one of the closest matches of the tournament, Rob Labritz beat Steve Scott one-up at Apawamis Country Club to take the MasterCard Westchester PGA Championship title for 2015.
Labritz had taken an early two-up lead through six holes, but lost it with a pair of bogeys on the sixth and seventh to put the match all square. He never led by more than one hole as the match went back and forth until the fifteenth, when Scott got in trouble on the tricky par four and Labritz held the lead through to the finish.
Labritz, director of golf at GlenArbor, had gone to extra holes against Saxon Woods head pro Charlie Meola in his semifinal match. Scott, head pro at Paramount Country Club, beat Apawamis head pro James Ondo two and one in his semi to earn a place in the final round.
Defending champion Grant Sturgeon, an assistant pro at Winged Foot and the 2014 Met Open champion, was eliminated in the Round of 16 in a match that went to 19 holes against Tyler Jaramillo, who recently joined the teaching staff at St. Andrew’s in Hastings.
