Getting to Know Tuckahoe

Discovering our downtowns and the best they have to offer.

Angelina’s Ristorante
If you’re one for a bit of theatrics with your Italian meal, order “The Wheel,” or Formaggio in Caretta. Prepared tableside, it’s a glorious rendition of spaghetti with red sauce in which fresh pasta is tossed in a massive wheel of Parmigiano-Reggiano infused with a flame of Cognac.

Rivervue Condominium
TriBeCa, Tuckahoe—same difference? These oversized loft-style condos with ceilings up to 13 feet high might have you believing just that. As of press time, a 1,577-square-foot, two-bedroom, two-bath condo with fireplace could be yours for $555K.

Growlers Beer Bistro
Who’d have thought a railroad substation could be turned into a successful craft-beer bistro? Growlers is host to many lively events including a parking-lot summer beach party and live-music Saturday nights. They’ll even deliver a growler to your doorstep. And the staff members are Cicerone Certified Beer Servers—which means they’re all official beer geeks and proud of it!

Epstein’s Dry Goods
Residents don’t need Macy’s or Bloomie’s when they have this family-owned and -operated department store, in business since 1933.

The Tap House
A gastropub with dozens of microbrews by the bottle, 10 on tap, and a pubby menu heavy on snacks and sandwiches. Can’t go wrong with the Blue crab, spinach, Gruyère, and bean casserole.

The Generoso Pope Foundation
Aside from housing the Westchester Italian Cultural Center (wiccny.org), this philanthropic family foundation headquarters is a grant source for community development and scholarships.

Tuckahoe Village Hall
Andrus, a provider of programs and services for children and families, has a long-term lease for two floors in the Tuckahoe Village Hall. Maude, the progressive-minded title character from the Norman Lear comedy set in Tuckahoe that ran from 1972 to 1978, would have approved.

Tuckahoe Masonic Temple
Dismiss any notions of a Dan Brown novel secret society. The building is simply the meeting place for a local fraternity of Freemasons. It also houses the Marble Masonic Historical Society, which is dedicated to preserving the history of the Freemasons and the Tuckahoe marble industry.

Mambo 64
After an especially tough day at work, the Dominican Hurricane (rum, passion fruit, pineapple juice, fresh orange juice, lime, and bitters) here should make it all right.

Cafe 72
This coffee shop uses Lavazza coffee from Italy and serves hot soup, wraps, and other goodies (try the vanilla- and cinnamon-scented hot chocolate) prepared daily.
