So you’ve never tried yoga, or acupressure, or hypnosis. Curious and want to give it a try? The Wainwright House (Rye 914-967-6080; www.wainwright.org) is hosting a daylong Health and Well-Being Expo on September 14, where you can sample some of the classes and services they’ll be offering throughout the fall.
The event will have both morning and afternoon sessions. Visitors can take a “mini audit” class ($5) in subjects like yoga, Native American spirituality, or going gluten-free. Wainwright house’s in-house practitioners will also be on-hand, and appointments can be made for services ($50) like reflexology, hypnosis, and acupressure. Pre-registration for the classes can be done online, and appointments for the services can be made by calling (914) 967-6080 ext 100.
The keynote address of the event will be given by Greg O’Brien, a Huffington Post blogger and author of the memoir On Pluto: Inside the Mind of Alzheimer’s. A writer and journalist for 35 years, O’Brien was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s, which also affected his mother and maternal grandfather. O’Brien has used his background as a journalist to face his disease head-on, and he’ll talk about his experiences in his address. The 12:30 pm keynote address is free, and lunch, beginning at noon, is available from Rachel’s Gourmet.
