Ardsley Panthers, my hometown sports team.
Bicycle Sundays on the Bronx River Parkway. I got my start in politics pushing for bike paths and closing the Parkway for bicycle traffic only.
County Office Building in White Plains, where I worked when I was a legislator.
Dobbs Ferry waterfront. It has great views of two bridges: the George Washington and the Tappan Zee.
Elmsford Little League field at Rumbrook Park. Watch out, Yankees, these kids are the future!
Frank’s Nursery. Greenburgh took over the property via foreclosure and is now trying to sell it. A possibility: an indoor sports facility.
Greenburgh Town Hall. I spent a good portion of last year knocking on doors so I could continue to work here.
Hastings Third Fridays. Downtown Hastings-on-Hudson turns into one big party as Warburton Ave is shut down to motorists.
Indian festival at the Kensico Dam Plaza. I love the food and entertainment—it’s one of my favorite ethnic festivals each summer.
Jazz in the Park at Yosemite Park. Every summer Thursday, the town holds evening jazz concerts.
Karate club at the Theodore D. Young Community Center. I never get into an argument with teacher Shuseki Shihan Clyde Coy.
Library. The Greenburgh Library was a beacon of light (and Internet accessibility) when thousands were without power during Superstorm Sandy.
Meal delivery service. Greenburgh has a kitchen at Anthony F. Veteran Town Park, and employees prepare and deliver meals for the homebound.
Nature Center. The Greenburgh Nature Center is a 33-acre woodland preserve with trails, ponds, gardens, and animal exhibits. Heaven on Central Ave.
Octagon House is a colorful, eight-sided house on Clinton Ave in Irvington.
Playgrounds. When my daughter was small, I took her to every one in town. The newest is an amazing pre-K playground at the Greenburgh Nature Center.
Quaker Meeting House on Popham Road in Scarsdale has a great history. It has opened its meeting rooms to groups as disparate as Jewish congregations and the UN Women’s Guild.
Restaurant row in Hartsdale. East Hartsdale Ave used to have a lot of vacant storefronts. Now, it’s filled with restaurants.
Schools. Check out US News & World Report, Newsweek, and Westchester Magazine.
Taxter Ridge Park in East Irvington/Tarrytown. Two hundred acres of magnificent trails: one of my proudest accomplishments.
Untermyer Park in Yonkers. When I’m there, I forget that I’m in a city—it really reflects the Westchester County that existed in the 19th century.
Virginia Road School. The town appropriated funds for one of Westchester’s first 100-percent-accessible playgrounds.
Woodlands High School, situated at the beautiful Warburg campus. George Balanchine, co-founder of the New York City Ballet, used to dance there.
Xposure, the town’s innovative after school program targeting low-income children. Students “invest” money in savings accounts, buy stocks, and learn basic investment skills.
Yosemite Park in back of the Theodore D. Young Community Center. It has playgrounds, an interactive spray area, music festivals, and basketball and racquetball courts.
Zumba Gold is a dance-fitness class offered at Anthony F. Veteran Park with zesty Latin and international music, easy-to-follow moves, and an invigorating party-like atmosphere.
